| The papaya plant has an erect branchless trunk 1.8-6.1 m (6-20ft) tall and a palmlike head of foliage at the top. The trunk remains somewhat succulent and soft wooded, and never develops true bark. The leaves are deeply incised and lobed, up to 60 cm (2ft) across and borne on 60 cm (2ft) petioles. Tainung No. 1 is a large plant and the most popular non-GMO variety. Flowering begins 218 days after sowing and the first fruit sets when the plants are 91 cm (3ft) tall. Fruits average 1 kg each, hold up well during transport and have sweet bright orange-red flesh that is 3 cm (1”) thick. Grow papaya in fertile, well-drained soil. 10 seeds |
