This shrub produces the edible red berries commercially known as Goji Berry, an important traditional Chinese fruit and medical plant.

Erect slender stem with narrow leaves, purple flowers followed by orange berries.

Native to China.

Adaptable to most well-drained soils in an open sunny position, frost and drought tender. Tolerant to coastal conditions.

Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C for this species.

  1. Soak overnight 24 hours in tepid water.
  2. Sow seed 4mm deep.
  3. Place in a warm shaded or semi shaded position to avoid dying out.
  4. Keep warm & moist, avoid drying out or waterlogging the growing mix.
  5. Germination should occur in 14-28 days @ 18-22°C in the right conditions

General note: Seeds of many species are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
