A small evergreen pyramidal tree the Fraser Fir typically grows between 10–15 m tall with a trunk diameter of 40–50 cm.
Attractive soft needle like scented leaves, densely foliaged when young and more open in mature trees. Erect broad dark purple cones 3.5–7 cm tall, turning pale brown when mature.
The combination of its pyramidal habit with scented dark blue-green foliage and good needle retention has made the Fraser Fir one of the most popular Christmas trees sold commercially in the UK where it is grown in plantation in Scotland.
Abies fraseri occurs naturally in the USA, restricted to the south-eastern Appalachian Mountains in southwestern Virginia, western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee.
