Commonly known as Ausfeld's wattle or whipstick cinnamon wattle, Acacia ausfeldii displays yellow globular flowerheads that appear in groups of two or three in the phyllode (leaf) axils from August to October. Flowers are followed by straight seed pods which are 4 to 9 cm long and 2 to 4 mm wide containing the seed,
Endemic to south-eastern Australia t grows to between 1 and 4 metres high with phyllodes (leaves) 2 to 7 cm long and 2 to 6 mm wide.

Prefers a well-drained soil in an open sunny position.Drought-resistant but frost tender. Ideally suited to shallow soil on rocky land and sandstone country. Suitable for tropical areas providing soil is free draining.

Pre-treatment: Hot Water
Place the seed in a container, pour in just boiled water, and allow to soak overnight.
The swollen seed can then be sown, and seeds that have not swollen can be re-treated.
Sow seed 3-5mm and keep moist. Germination should occur in 10-21 days @ 18-22C.

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
