A bushy, rounded, or spreading shrub 0.5-3 m high, it produces globular yellow flowers from April to November. The bark is smooth and light grey. The narrowly to oblong phyllodes (leaves) have a length of 2 to 7 centimetres and a width of 6 to 20 millimetres.

The plant is widespread in arid areas of northern Australia and is common in the Pilbara and Kimberley regions of Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and western Queensland. It can grow in various types of soils, including coastal sand, rocky hills and gullies, shrubland, and open woodland.

Acacia is easy to propagate from seed.

The best time to sow Acacia seed is autumn, Late winter and spring.

  1. Sow in a well drained mix.
  2. Soak in water 24 hours
  3. Next, soak seeds in near boiling water  for 24-48 hours,to help soften the tough exterior and improve germination.
  4. Sow the seeds to a depth equal to the seed's width.
  5. Place in a semi-shaded postion.
  6. Keep the soil moist, avoid overwatering and ensure it doesn’t dry out.

Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.

Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lie dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist, but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
