An erect or spreading shrub 1-4 metres but more typically around 2 metres tall with attractive bright yellow flowers that occur during August to September. Narrow phyllodes (leaves) 8 cm long.
Distribution of this species is mainly in the upper catchment of the Snowy River (hence the common name) south from the Cooma district in New South Wales to the highlands of Victoria. It also occurs outside its natural range in the ACT where it has been widely cultivated and has become naturalized.
Full sun to part shade but will flower more profusely in full sun. Suited to most soils that are well drained. Frost hardy; will tolerate frosts to -7 C.
Acacia is easy to propagate from seed.
The best time to sow Acacia seed is autumn, Late winter and spring.
Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.
