Acacia falcata, commonly known as sickle wattle, is a shrub or small tree to five metres that produces spherical cream or pale-yellow flowers from April to August.

The name “sickle wattle” comes from its pale green or grey-green sickle-shaped phyllodes (leaves)

Thin seed pods follow the flowers, maturing from September to December.
Seed release occurs in December, and it’s dispersed by wind, which attracts the imperial hairstreak butterfly.

Acacia falcata is adaptable to a wide range of soils in cultivation, and its attractive foliage is a horticultural feature.

Occurs naturally from Queensland south through eastern New South Wales to Bermagui on the south coast.

For best results, sow the seeds in spring or early summer. Sowings in autumn and winter may result in slow germination, weaker seedlings, or germination failure.

  1.  soak in water for 24-48 hours.
  2. Next, soak seeds in near boiling water overnight to help soften the tough exterior and improve germination.
  3. Sow the seeds to a depth equal to the seed's width.

Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.

Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
