There are over 1200 species of acacia occurring in Australia, making it the largest genus of flowering plants in Australia.
Small thin shrub 40 centimetres or small tree 1.2 to 5 metres high that produces cylindrical yellow flowers from May to September.
The cylindrical flower spikes occur singly or in pairs and are found in terminal panicles, and have a length of 1 to 5 cm, with bright yellow flowers.
The flowers are followed by seed pods containing the seed.
As with all Acacia, they do not have true leaves; they have modified leaves known as phyllodes
The evergreen flat, narrow phyllodes are 5 to 13.5 centimetres long and 8 to 33 millimetres wide.
A hardy species that will grow in arid and semi-arid conditions.
Drought-tolerant and resistant to the occasional frost.
Grows in sand and stony soils on low rocky ridges, undulating plains and gullies in Western Australia, shallow stony soils in the Northern Territory, and in Queensland, a loamier soil.
