Acacia leiocalyx, commonly known as black wattle, produces attractive yellow flowers in narrow spikes and usually blooms from June to October. Curly seed pods follow the flowers.
The black wattle grows up to 6-7 metres and has a trunk about 180 mm in diameter. It has sickle-shaped green leaves. Although the timber of Acacia leiocalyx is colourful, it is prone to splitting easily.
It occurs naturally in Queensland and as far south as Sydney.

Pre-treatment: Hot Water
Place the seed in a container, pour in just boiled water, and allow to soak overnight.
The swollen seed can then be sown, and seeds that have not swollen can be re-treated.
Sow seed 3-5mm and keep moist. Germination should occur in 10-21 days @ 18-22C.
