A variable graceful acacia with dark-grey bark and a pendulous habit that provides a good silvery contrast in landscapes.

Flowers occur during spring on short racemes in axils, with 2-4 golden, globular heads. Distinctive pods are flat, 4-8cm long by 1-2cm wide.

Phyllodes (leaves) are sickle shape 5-8cm long waxy-blue in colour with minute silver oppressed hairs.

Endemic to Northern Victoria, New South Wales and Southern Queensland.

Prefers slightly fertile, well-drained sandy soils in full sun although it is tolerant of heavy soils, waterlogged sites, and partial shade. Moderately frost and wind-resistant with a good drought tolerance.

Acacia is easy to propagate from seed.

The best time to sow Acacia seed is autumn, Late winter and spring.

  1. Sow in a well drained mix.
  2. Soak in water 24 hours
  3. Next, soak seeds in near boiling water  for 24-48 hours,to help soften the tough exterior and improve germination.
  4. Sow the seeds to a depth equal to the seed's width.
  5. Place in a semi-shaded postion.
  6. Keep the soil moist, avoid overwatering and ensure it doesn’t dry out.

Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.

Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lie dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist, but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
