There are over 1200 species of acacia occurring in Australia, making it the largest genus of flowering plants in Australia.

The shrub has an open to sometimes spindly habit and typically grows to a height of 1.5 to 2.5 metres, producing flowers from September to November.
The flowers consist of up to 20, with the axis measuring around six centimetres in length. The spherical flower heads contain 14 to 23 pale yellow flowers.

As with all Acacia, they do not have true leaves; they have modified leaves known as phyllodes.

The dull grey-green phyllodes are flat or slightly twisted with an elliptic to broadly elliptic shape that can sometimes be broadly oval shaped, have a length of 17 to 45 millimetres and a width of 10 to 23 millimetres.

An adaptable plant that grows in a range of soils, including sandy soils, rocky sand and clay along creeks and drainage lines.
Occurs naturally in the north-eastern part of New South Wales
Acacia uncinata was first formally described by the botanist John Lindley in 1830.

Acacia is easy to propagate from seed.

The best time to sow Acacia seed is autumn, Late winter and spring.

  1. Sow in a well drained mix.
  2. Soak in water 24 hours
  3. Next, soak seeds in near boiling water  for 24-48 hours,to help soften the tough exterior and improve germination.
  4. Sow the seeds to a depth equal to the seed's width.
  5. Place in a semi-shaded postion.
  6. Keep the soil moist, avoid overwatering and ensure it doesn’t dry out.

Germination: Typically occurs within two weeks.

* Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lie dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist, but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region.
