Golden Trumpet

Stock: Out Of Stock

SKU Code: ES 81

Family: Apocynaceae

Characteristics: Shrub to 1m spread 1m

Seeds per packet: 5

A very attractive ever blooming shrub with bright yellow night scented trumpet like flowers almost year round.
The flowers are followed by seed pods containing winged seeds that fly when the pod dries and breaks open.

Native to South America.

Adaptable to most soils but prefers warm moist soils in a protected position. It is drought and frost tender. Prune in spring before growth begins.

Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-24°C.

  1. Place the seed in a container of warm water and allow to soak overnight.
  2. Sow swollen seed re-treat others.
  3. Sow: 6mm deep.
  4. Keep warm & moist but not too wet.
  5. Germination should occur in 10-28 days @ 18-24°C.

General note: Seeds of many plants are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
