An impressive, quick-growing Aloe with leaves with spectacular yellow-green flowers with bright orange stamens. Each rosette of leaves may have up to 5 flower spikes attracting nectar-eating birds and insects.
Flowering occurs in winter with one-metre-tall flower spikes.

Leaves have small firm teeth along margins 60-80 cm long arranged in dense rosettes.

Leaves are bright green in shaded areas; they can take off a deep reddish-bronze colour in sunny positions.

It occurs naturally in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Swaziland Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natla in South Africa.

The secret to growing aloe is to create a free-draining mix that will not become waterlogged. Aloe seeds can be easily propagated in sandy and well-drained potting soil during spring or summer.

Once you've sown the seeds, cover them with a thin layer of sand (1-2mm) and keep the soil moist but not too wet.

It's best to keep the seeds in a warm and shady area.

When the seedlings are sufficiently grown to handle, they can be planted out.
It usually takes about three weeks for the seeds to germinate when the soil temperature is around 23°C.

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
