Aloe striata is a stunning succulent that produces coral-red flowers on flower stalks that can grow up to one meter tall and occur during late winter and spring.

The plant forms stemless or short-stemmed rosettes of glaucous to somewhat reddish-tinged leaves with pale pink to almost red margins. The rosettes can grow alone or sometimes with 2 to 6 offsets, reaching up to 1 meter in diameter.

A flowering succulent native to the Eastern Cape and Western Cape provinces of South Africa.

The secret to growing aloe is to create a free-draining mix that will not become waterlogged. Aloe seeds can be easily propagated in sandy and well-drained potting soil during spring or summer.

Once you've sown the seeds, cover them with a thin layer of sand (1-2mm) and keep the soil moist but not too wet.

It's best to keep the seeds in a warm and shady area.

When the seedlings are sufficiently grown to handle, they can be planted out.
It usually takes about three weeks for the seeds to germinate when the soil temperature is around 23°C.

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
