ALOE thraskii

This stately Aloe is one of the tallest growing aloe’s that forms a sizeable dense rosette on a single stem typically up 2-3 metres tall on maturity.
The rosette leaves can grow to 150cm long and 20cm wide. Flowering occurs from mid-winter in a magnificent display of flower spikes up to 75cm tall, with each raceme around 25cm tall and densely packed with yellow-orange flowers.
Makes an excellent specimen plant.
Occurs naturally in dune vegetation along the coast of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
The secret to growing aloe is to create a free-draining mix that will not become waterlogged. Aloe seeds can be easily propagated in sandy and well-drained potting soil during spring or summer.
Once you've sown the seeds, cover them with a thin layer of sand (1-2mm) and keep the soil moist but not too wet.
It's best to keep the seeds in a warm and shady area.
When the seedlings are sufficiently grown to handle, they can be planted out.
It usually takes about three weeks for the seeds to germinate when the soil temperature is around 23°C.

- Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
- As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
