Love-Lies-Bleeding will make a beautiful statement in your garden or as a wonderful container plant. Many parts of the plants, including the leaves and seeds, are edible and are frequently used as a source of food in India and South America

With attractive light green foliage this plant becomes loaded with carmine red, large drooping tassels of flowers plumes in mid-summer and blooms right to the middle of winter.

The long red trusses give the plants an ornamental and graceful appearance. These are great for drying and also make an impressive fresh-cut flower.

This heirloom variety was actually grown as a source of food "Inca Wheat" by the Aztecs in South America since at least the 16th century. In rich well-drained soil, this annual will grow to about 80 cm high with a spread of about 80 cm and flower clusters up to 80 m long.

Amaranth is a warm-season crop.

The best time for sowing the seed:

  • Cool climates: September-November
  • Temperate climates: August-March
  • Sub-tropicalclimates:August-April
  • Tropical and Arid: March-August

Amaranth is easy to grow from seed. Cover the seed lightly and keep moist.

Germination: usually 7-10 days

For succession planting, stagger seed sow every 3-4 weeks for continued production.

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate; keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • Customers should do their due diligence to ensure the product suits their region.
