An attractive red on-green leaf Amaranth that is primarily grown for its tender edible young leaves that are high in protein, vitamins, and minerals.
An ideal substitute during the summer months for spinach and kale.
An easy plant to grow that also makes an attractive ornamental in the flower garden.
Amaranth is a warm-season crop.
The best time for sowing the seed:
- Cool climates: September-November
- Temperate climates: August-March
- Sub-tropicalclimates:August-April
- Tropical and Arid: March-August
Amaranth is easy to grow from seed. Cover the seed lightly and keep moist.
Germination: usually 7-10 days
For succession planting, stagger seed sow every 3-4 weeks for continued production.
