A small handsome tree with a slender rough barked stem with spreading branches and a densely textured crown. Showy white flowers occur profusely in summer in large clusters followed by cup-shaped fruits.

Adult leaves are heart shaped (cordate) to opposite leaves and the branches and leaves have reddish hairs, new growth can be a reddish-purple colour.

Endemic to New South Wales.

Plants in the genus Angophora are trees, occasionally shrubs, with rough bark. The juvenile leaves differ from adult leaves in that they are hairy and have raised oil glands. Both juvenile and adult leaves are arranged in opposite pairs. The genus Angophora was first formally described in 1797 by Antonio José Cavanilles

The best time to sow members of the Myrtaceae family seed is:

Cool climates: September to May.

Temperate climates: September to May.

Sub-Tropical climates: August to May

Tropical climates: September to November or March to May.

Arid climates:
August to May.

The grow mix should be well-draining, preferably with organic compost. This will replicate the soil they require in nature; a potting mix is not recommended.

  1. Sow fine seeds on the surface and cover lightly with the grow mix or vermiculite. Do not bury the seed deeply.
  2.  For larger seeds, sow to a depth of the seed size.
  3. Water with a fine mist spray to avoid seed disturbance.
  4. Keep the mix moist; avoid letting the mid become too wet or dry.

Germination occurs in around 10-28 days at a soil temperature of 18-22°C

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty in discarding seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until conditions are like their natural germination requirements.
  • All seeds must have adequate water to germinate; keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • Customers should do their due diligence and ensure they are suited to their region.
