A rhizomatous robust grass-like sedge is rhizomatous and perennial; it typically grows to a height of 4 metres and a width of 2 metres. It blooms between August and December or January and March.

Densely clustered spikelets bearing red-brown flower heads containing the seed.

Baumea rubiginosa is ideal for pots, ponds, and wetland revegetation. Attracts frogs.

Mainly occurs naturally in the South West corner of Western Australia, with the smaller population on the western coast. Isolated pockets also occur in the Northern Territory, Southern Queensland, and the Victorian coast.

The best time to sow Baumea seed is September to November to avoid hot, dry conditions.
What you need:

  1. A seed tray with no holes.
  2. A seed tray with holes.
  3. Enough small pots to fill the trays.

Place the tray holes inside the tray without holes.

Using a mix of sand, peat and vermiculite. Sow 2-3 seeds on the surface inside each pot; cover the seed lightly with vermiculite.
The pots must stay wet. If they become too wet, empty the tray with no holes.

Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate and keep them wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • Customers should do their due diligence and ensure they are suited to their region.
