A mix of semi-orange double and double, yellow, apricot and cream flowers on long straight stems are ideal for cutting. The Calendula Pacific Beauty is easy to grow and can reach a height of 60 centimetres, which makes it prefect for cut flowers.
It is a versatile plant used in containers, beds, borders, and pollinator gardens where it attracts beneficial insects.
Calendula has been used since at least the 12th century for culinary and medicinal purposes. Its flower petals are edible and have a slightly bitter and peppery taste.
Calendula plants typically self-seed in the garden, dropping their seeds on the soil at the end of the season; if left undisturbed, they should germinate and grow again the following season.
It is adaptable to most soils and conditions, provided it is sunny, but prefers rich, moderately moist, and well-drained soils.
Calendula seeds can be planted directly into the garden or in trays/containers and then transplanted when they are large enough to handle.
For garden planting, sow the seeds 15mm deep and 50-60cm apart in rows 60cm apart. Keep the soil moist throughout the growth period. The seeds will typically germinate within 7-14 days. The optimum soil temperature is 18-22°C.
Tropical: Late Summer to Autumn or in Spring.
Temperate: Mid-summer to Late Autumn.
Cold: Spring or Autumn.
