The Golden West California poppy is a spectacular bloomer producing beautiful gold poppies with orange hearts.
California Poppies are a charming addition to the garden, easy to grow, and require virtually no care. Self-sows freely. Ideal for borders, bedding, and containers or wildflower meadow planting.
Attracts honeybees and other beneficial insects.
The California Poppy is the state flower of California.
Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in an open sunny position. Tolerant to poor sandy soils and drought and frost-resistant. Grows well in warmer climates, drought tolerant.
Tropical: Winter to early summer.
Temperate: Late winter to mid-summer.
Cold: Spring early summer.
Sow: 2-3mm deep, cover lightly and gently firm.
For best results sow directly into soil where they are to grow. If grown early indoors use a growing container that can be plant directly into the soil such as jiffy pots as seedlings do not like root disturbance.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 30cm
Flowering: 8-10 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for more vigorous plants.
