A small to medium sized shrub which although not widely cultivated, is a hardy plant under a wide range of garden conditions. The lime green bottlebrush flower spikes appear in late spring.
Suited to a range of climate including colder sub-alpine regions.
Native to Tasmania.
Prefers a light to heavy soil in a protected moist position, drought and frost tender.
Note: A paper by Lyn Craven of the Australian National Herbarium in 2006 argues that the differences between the genera Callistemon and Melaleuca are insufficient to warrant them being retained separately and that they should be combined. As Melaleuca has precedence some Australian state herbaria use the name Melaleuca virens.
