A variety of Capsicum from Padrón in north-western Spain these are small peppers grow to around 5cm (2’’) long and range in colour from bright green to yellowish green or and occasionally red.

A favourite for use in tapas they are traditionally served sautéed in olive oil and sea salted.

Most commonly harvested when they are small and green and around 3-5cm long when it has a fresh and sweet flavour. 1 in 20 may be hot.

Adaptable to most garden soils but prefers a well-drained, well fed soil in a sunny position. Annual in temperate climates perennial in the tropics.

Capsicums require warmth for germination, if starting early provide warmth.

Sow: 6mm deep.
Grow in trays of a good seed raising mix and transplant when 6-7cm tall.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 50cm

Maturity: 10-12 weeks

Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
