Coleus are grown for their colourful foliage. Rainbow Mix has solid or bi-coloured leaves in shades of red, green, yellow, maroon and pink.Coleus is perfect for a shady garden and is an excellent indoor or outdoor container plant.

Rainbow mix is one of the best plants for adding masses of colourful foliage to shady areas. Great in north-facing flower beds and around shade trees. It is also an excellent houseplant.
Insignificant flower spikes appear in late summer.

The genus Cols was first described in 1791 by João de Loureir, a Portuguese Jesuit missionary and botanist.
There are over 300 different coleus species, and over 1500 different varieties.
When to sow:

Cool climates: September to February.
Temperate climates:  August to March.
Sub-Tropical climates: August to Apil.
Tropical climates: All Year round.
Arid climates: September to February.

Coleus seeds can be sown directly into the garden or in trays, Punnets and containers.
Transplant when they are large enough to handle, usually at the two-leaf stage.
Coleus seed germinate better in warm humid condtions.   
          
Sowing in containers:
  1. Sow seeds on the surface, gently firm them down, and lightly cover them with the mix.
  2. Keep soil moist but not too wet or dry.
  3. Germination occurs in around 10-20 days at a soil temperature of 18-24°C

Sowing diretly in the ground:

  1. Prepare the ground by loosing the soil and enduring it is weed free. Rack over until it is level.
  2. Scatter seed over damp soil and gently rake over and cover light
  3. Keep moist but not too wet or dry.
