A fast-growing U.S. wildflower, it produces a mass of bright red flowers on dwarf plants 40cm high. It makes a great cut flower and healthy perennial for sunny garden beds with ordinary soil.

It is easy to grow and suitable for pots, the front of the border, wildflower mixtures, naturalizing, rockeries, and pollinator gardens. It attracts honeybees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.

Plants typically self-seed in the garden, dropping their seeds on the soil at the end of the season and growing again the following season.

Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in a sunny position.
A hardy, undemanding plant that tolerates poor soils and drought.

Coreopsis occurs naturally in much of the United States, Canada and northeast Mexico.

For best results, sow directly in the growing position.
If growing in trays or containers, transplant when large enough to handle.
If mass planting, scatter seeds and rake over lightly.

Tropical: Autumn to early winter.
Temperate: Winter and spring.
Cold: Late summer to early autumn or mid-spring.

Sow on the surface and firm into the soil, covering just enough to hold the seed in place. Keep moist whilst germination occurs.
Germination typically takes 7-21 days at a soil temperature of 12-22°C.

It is well suited to sandier soils and, once established, requires minimal water.

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty in discarding seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
