The markings on Candy Stripe Cosmos are unique and vary with each flower. The plants thrive on neglect and reseed themselves easily, making them a great choice for wildflower meadows or naturalised areas.
Cosmos can be a great cut flower with a vase life of 5-7 days. Harvest the blooms in the early morning, selecting stems with flowers that have just opened.
They are excellent colourful bedding plants for low-maintenance dry areas and great for cut flowers. They are among the easiest and most attractive spring and summer garden flowers.
Cosmos bipinnatus is native to Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica.
Today it is a popular garden plant with many cultivars bred in just about every shade and colour.
The best time of year to sow Cosmos seeds is mid-spring to mid-summer in cold zones.
In temperate zones, the best time is early spring to mid-summer. In tropical zones seed should be sown in the dry mid-Autumn to late winter is best.
