Beautiful native fast growing evergreen tree fern with a slender brown tubercular trunk 2-5m in height and light green lacy fern like fronds to 6 m.

Native to New South Wales and Queensland.

Prefers a light to medium moist rich soil in a protected position. Drought and frost tender.

Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C for this species.

  1. With a tip of a knife sow on surface of peat mix, mist spray with water.
  2. Cover pot with glass or polythene.
  3. Stand pot in 2cm of water. Place in bright position, not full sun. Keep moist.
  4. Germination 14-28 days @ 18-22°C

General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
