The best time to sow Daviesia is autumn or spring, so avoid the coldest and hottest months.
Seeds germinate readily; however, they do have a hard outer coating that is impervious to water. To assist in the uptake of moisture for germination to occur, seeds are best scarified by pre-treating with hot water first.
Hot water treatment is recommended for this species.
  1. Place the seed in a container and pour in just boiled water and allow to soak overnight.
  2. The swollen seed can then be sown, re-treat seeds that have not swollen.
  3. Sow seed 3-4mm deepPlace in a warm-shaded or semi-shaded position.
  4. Keep warm & moist, and avoid drying out or waterlogging the growing mix.
Germination should occur in 10-21 days @ 18-22°C
*Please note:
• Please do not be too hasty in discarding seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until conditions are like their natural germination requirements.
• All seeds must have adequate water to germinate; keep them moist but not too wet.
• These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
• Customers should do their due diligence and ensure they are suited to their region.
