Erect shrub or tree, 1-5 m high with yellow-green/red flowers from July to October.
The bracts and seed pods are red.
Leaves are simple, narrowly elliptic, acute, entire, attenuate at base, 3–5.5 cm long, 0.4–0.9 cm wide
Dodonaea are bi-sexual with both male and female.
Occurs naturally on the Swan Coastal Plain.
Prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny of partial shaded position. Adaptable to most type of free draining soils including, sandy soils, and coastal limestone. Drought and frost resistant.
The best time to sow Dodonaea in spring, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year.
Dodonaea seeds germinate readily, however they do have a hard outer coating which is impervious to water. To assist in the uptake of moisture for germination to occur seed best scarified by pre-treating with hot water first.
Hot water treatment is recommended for this species.
