An attractive shrub erect in habit with slender arching branches and blue, tubular flowers with expanding lobes over many months of the year.
Bright yellow berries follow the flowers in autumn and winter.
Leaves are oval with serrate edges.
Can be trimmed as a hedge or makes a great pot plant on the patio. bright yellow berries appear in autumn and winter, these berries if left to drop will often germinate where they fall.
Native to Mexico and Brazil.
Adaptable to a range of climates and conditions. Prefers a rich moist well-drained soil in an open sunny position, drought and frost resistant.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C
- Soak seed in tepis water overnight, remove any remaining fruit from the seed if required.
- Sow seed on surface of a porous seed raising mix and cover to a depth of 2-3mm.
- Place in a warm shaded or semi shaded position to avoid dying out.
- Keep warm & moist, avoid drying out or waterlogging the growing mix.
- Germination should occur in 21-42 days @ 18-22°C depending on the conditions.
General note: Seeds of many plant species are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
