Eucalyptus buprestium is a type of small mallee tree with spreading branches that have slightly curved lanceolate foliage of approximately 9cm in length.
Commonly known as the apple mallee or ball-fruited mallee, this tree produces ovate yellow flower buds that have a cap that looks like a small apple.
These buds open to reveal white flowers during November and December or January to April depending on location and conditions.

Prune to maintain the ship if required. Good revegetation species.

A lignotuber-forming species that naturally occurs in the South-West Province of Western Australia.
Adaptable to various soil types including sand with gravel, sandy clay, sandplains, and ridge tops.

Prefers an open sunny position.

Although seed can be sown most of the year around if you avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year, the best time to sow is generally spring.

  • The grow mix should be free draining preferably with some organic compost well mix through. This will replicate the soil they require in nature.
  • Potting mix is not recommended.
  • Sow fine seeds on the surface and cover lightly with the grow mix, do not bury the seed deeply.
  •  For larger seed sow to a depth of the seed size.
  • Water with a fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed.

Germination generally occurs in around 10-28 days at a soil temperature of 18-22°C

*Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate; keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region
