The best time to sow Myrtaceae seed is:

Cool climates:
September to May.

Temperate climates: September to May.

Sub-Tropical climates: August to May.

Tropical climates: September to November or March to May.

The grow mix should be well-draining, preferably with organic compost. This will replicate the soil they require in nature.

A potting mix is not recommended.

  1. Sow fine seeds on the surface and cover lightly with the grow mix or vermiculite. Do not bury the seed deeply.
  2.  For larger seeds, sow to a depth of the seed size.
  3. Water with a fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed

Germination occurs in around 10-28 days

Please note:

  • Please do not be too hasty to discard seeds that do not germinate; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to germinate, keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
  • The customer should do their due diligence that they are suited to their region
