Heart Leaved Mallee
Increasing hard to source seed
Family: Myrtaceae
Sub-family: Myrtoideae
Characteristics: Mallee or small tree 3 to 4 m spread 2 m
Seed per packet: Approx. 30
Seed per gram: Approx. 175
An increasingly rare species that has become difficult to obtain.
An erect mallee or small tree with attractive blue-green heart-shaped leaves often used in flower arrangements.
Yellow flowers occur from September to November in its native range. Suited to small gardens and requires little to no maintenance once established.
Endemic to Western Australia.
It is a hardy plant preferring well-drained sandy soil in a sunny position. Tolerate to drought and frost.
Although seeds can be sown most of the year if you avoid the coldest and hottest months, spring is generally the best time to sow.
The grow mix should be well-draining, preferably with organic compost. This will replicate the soil they require in nature.
A potting mix is not recommended.
Germination occurs in around 10-28 days at a soil temperature of 18-22°C
