Blue Fescue is a cool-season bunchgrass that grows 30-45 tall. It is a very attractive ornamental, densely tufted grass with short bluish-green leaves. The inflorescence is fairly flat and slightly feathery.
It is ideal for landscaping, beds, borders, rock gardens, and ground cover.

It is adaptable and non-aggressive, which makes it ideal for combining with flower mixtures to create a meadow or natural-looking area.  Grow in a sunny location since the foliage colour is best when grown in full sun

It is well suited to poor shallow soils and will grow in dry or moist soil in full sun or part shade. It prefers well-drained light sandy or medium loamy soil and is drought tolerant.

Native throughout Europe (with the exception of some Mediterranean areas) and eastwards across much of Asia, it has also been introduced to North America throughout Europe (with the exception of some Mediterranean areas) and eastwards across much of Asia; it has also been introduced to North America.

Festuca seeds are best sown in early winter (March to June) when the soil moisture is adequate. However, spring sowing (September) can also be successful in areas with heavy rainfall.

  1. Best sown 3-6 mm directly where they are to grow.
  2. If sowing in trays, transplant when large enough to handle.
  3. If mass planting as a meadow, scatter seeds and rake over.

Germination: 10-21 days at a soil temperature of 15-21°C

*Please note:

  • Please do not discard seeds that do not germinate too hastily; seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural germination requirements.
  • As with all seeds, they must have adequate water to keep them moist but not too wet.
  • These growth notes are provided as guidance only and do not guarantee successful germination.
