A small mostly erect herb native to the USA with a glandular stem often coated in cobwebby fibres. The leaves are arranged in a rounded basal rosette, each leaf divided sharply into many subdivided lobes.

The top of the stem is an inflorescence of violet-blue flowers with yellow and white throats. The base of the flower is a thin, glandular tube.

This American wildflower is useful in cottage gardens, flower mixes and meadow planting.

Tolerates full to part sun and dry to moderate moisture. Honeybees, and other pollinators as well as nectar-feeding birds are attracted to the flowers

Grow notes:

TropicalAutumn & Winter.
Temperate: Late Winter to Early Autumn.
Cool climate: Spring to Late Summer.

Sow: 1mm deep
Sow direct or in trays. If sowing in trays transplant when large enough to handle avoiding excessive root disturbance.
Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position.
Plant space: 20cm
Germination: 14-21 days

Water regularly in dry weather and cut back all spent blooms to prolong flowering.
