An attractive small shrub with alluring bright bluish-purple pea-shaped flowers that occurs in clusters borne in axillary racemes of up to 4 flowers with each flower up to 15 mm wide across during spring.
As with all the Fabaceae family, they are nitrogen fixers.
Occurs naturally in the forests and woodland in Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales to Cowra.
Hovea lanceolata was first formally described in 1814 by John Sims and the description was published in the Botanical Magazine.
The best time to sow Hovea seed is Late winter and spring, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year.
Seed germinates readily, however; they do have a hard outer coating that is impervious to water and generally germination will normally not occur unless the seed is scarify by abrading or pre-treated with boiling water first.
