Isopogons are related to Grevilleas and Banksias.
Small shrub with pink or mauve flowers are conspicuously displayed on the ends of the branches during late winter and spring. The flower clusters are around 50mm in diameter and are followed by the spherical barrel-shaped seed pods.
Typically forms a slender stem and spreading branches with leaves that are divided with needle-like segments 100 mm long.
Native to the central west coast to the Goldfields region of Western Australia.
Prefers light to medium well-drained soil in an open sunny position, drought and frost resistant.
Pre-treatment of smoke is recommended for this species.
Smoke treatments are simple and can be undertaken either by soaking the seed overnight or by applying it to the surface after sowing, both provide good results. Smoke treatments are available by clicking here.
Seeds of Isopogon can be erracit and difficult to propagate but not impossible.
Sow seed on the surface of a porous seed-raising mix and cover lightly.
Place in a warm semi-shaded position to avoid dying out.
Germination: 21-42 day 15-25°C
