This east coast Kunzea typically forms a compact habit and usually is wider than it is high and can reach 1.5 metres high and 3m wide but may be smaller than this depending upon conditions. The leaves are tiny and dull green in colour.
Flowers profusely with displays of attractive of pink or violet rounded flowers occurring through late spring into summer. One of the few Kunzea to occur on the east coast.
Endemic to New South wales and Victoria.
Adaptable to most conditions but prefers a heavy moist soil in an open sunny position, frost and drought resistant.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn in temperate climates, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C
General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
