A small ground-hugging shrub that is typically around 20-30cm. An abundance of bright blue flowers from July to December
Commonly grown in the garden and makes a good feature plant for rockeries and native landscaping. A hardy annual that requires little attention.

One of the better-known West Australian wildflowers that can often be seen growing on the roadsides during the winter months.

Lechenaultia biloba is found across a wide range in the southwestern corner of Western Australia, from the Geraldton sandplains south through the southwestern corner and east to Esperance.

Prefers a light well-drained soil in an open sunny position, drought resistant.

Grow notes:

The optimum germination temperature for germination of this genus is around 18-22°C
Pre-treatment:  Smoke is recommended. Smoke treatments are available by clicking here.

  1. Sow seed on the surface of a porous seed-raising mix. Sprinkle a very light covering of the seed-raising mix over the seed. Do not bury the seed deeply.
  2. Water with a fine mist spray to avoid disturbance of the seed.
  3. Place in a warm shaded or semi-shaded position to avoid dying out.
  4. Keep warm & moist, avoid drying out or waterlogging the growing mix.
  5. Germination generally occurs in around 21-42 days in the right conditions.

General note: Seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
