A very attractive flowering shrub with aromatic leaves and masses of tubular oranges flowers on tall straight stems that rise above the foliage during summer. Flowering will extend into winter in warmer climates.
Traditionally, in parts of Africa Leonotis leonurus has a history of medicinal uses, it was commonly used for headaches, flu, chest infections, constipation, dysentery insect bites and various other ailments. The plant also has a history of been used as a smoking herb. It is thought to contain compounds similar cannabinoids from Cannabis.

Prefers a light to medium well drained soil in an open sunny position. Drought tolerant but grows best with regular water over the warmer months.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring.
The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C.
General note: Seeds of many species are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
