Heirloom variety of Iceberg (crisphead) lettuce from 1941 noted for having a denser head than most varieties.
This vigorous lettuce forms large well-rounded solid heads tightly folded in cooler weather with a good crisp texture and flavour.

Heat and cold tolerant with a good disease and tip burn resistant.   
Slow to bolt making this an outstanding variety for the home garden, containers and hydroponics.

Growings notes:

Prefers moist fertile well-drained soil but grows well in almost any garden soil in a sunny position with adequate water. Grow fast with plenty of water and regular feeds of liquid manure to avoid bitterness.

Sow: 3mm deep.
Sow direct or grow in trays of a good seed raising mix and transplant when learge enough to handle.
Germination: 6-10 days.

Maturity: 7-8 weeks

Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for stronger plants.
