A highly ornamental flowering shrub also known as the Chenille Honey Myrtle produces fine delicate foliage and pink bottlebrush flowers from late winter to summer.
A hardy shrub that is well suited to wind-blown coastal conditions.

It makes an attractive feature shrub in the garden, is helpful for screening or hedging, and responds well to pruning. Attracts nectar-eating birds and insects. A variable shrub that is 1 to 8 metres in the wild depending on local conditions, in cultivation, will typically attain a height of 1.8 to 2.5 metres.

Prefers well-drained light soil in a sunny or party-shaded position. Tolerates drought, Lime, Moderate frost, and salt spray.

Occurs naturally in the Eremaean Province and the South-West Province of Western Australia in the coastal regions extending from Shark Bay in the North to Cape Leeuwin in the South.

Grow notes:

Seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn in temperate climates, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C

  1. Sow on the surface of the growing mix.
  2. Press lightly into the surface. Do not bury the seed.
  3. Keep warm & moist, and avoid drying out or waterlogging the growing mix.
  4. Germination generally occurs in around 14-28 days in the right condition.

The seeds of many natives are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, natives will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
