An attractive fast-growing open, spreading tree with a light-coloured trunk, dark green leaves, and producing masses of pink flowers along the branches in summer. The flowers and following seeds are bird attracting.
The tree occurs naturally in high rainfall or wet areas and requires a good water supply in cultivation.
This species is one of the best of our native plants for attracting butterflies and other insects to your garden.
Occurs in New South Wales, Queensland, and the Northern Territory.
Prefers moist enriched soil in a sunny to dappled shaded position. Drought and frost tender.
Grow notes:
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn in temperate climates, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 22-25°C.
General note: Seeds of many plants are dormant and require specific conditions or pre-treatment for germination.
Do not be too hasty to discard seed that does not germinate, seeds will often lay dormant until the conditions are similar to their natural requirements for germination to occur. Containers put to one side will often surprise long after they were discarded.
