An old-fashioned favourite, Four O-clocks White is an old-time garden favourite that gets its common name from its late afternoon to early morning bloom time.
A tuber-forming perennial with oval lance-shaped leaves and trumpet-shaped clean white fragrant flowers. Mirabilis is a wonderful addition to an evening garden. Attracts insects and nectar-feeding birds.
Mirabilis are easy to grow and thrive almost anywhere. Self-seeds freely.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Winter to Spring
Temperate: Spring to Early Summer.
Cool climate: Mid-Spring to Early-Summer.
Sow: 6mm deep
Best sown direct or sow in trays and transplanted when large enough to handle.
Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position.
Plant space: 40-50cm
Germination: 14-21 days
Flowering: 10-12 weeks
Adaptable to most garden soils will thrive in ordinary soils in full sun or partial shade.
Seeds are best sown after the danger of frost has passed.
Sow directly in their growing position. If growing in containers, transplant seedlings when they are large enough to handle.
Soaking the seeds in water overnight will speed up germination. Sow the seeds 6mm.
The seed should germinate in 1-3 weeks at a soil temperature of 20-22°C.
