A small erect shrub in the pea family of Fabaceae growing to a height of 1 metre with leaves in groups of three.
Attractive purple pea flowers occur during winter and spring in it's native range. Ideal for mass planting where it produces a colourful display when in bloom.
Endemic to Eastern Australia.
Fairly adaptable to a range of soils providing it is well draining in a partly shade condition although it will survive in full sun.
Although seed can be sown most of the year in many parts of Australia seed is generally best sown in spring or autumn in temperate climates, avoid the coldest and hottest months of the year. The optimum germination temperature for germination is around 18-22°C.
Mirbelia seeds germinate readily, however they do have a hard outer coating which is impervious to water and generally germination will normally not occur unless the seed is scarified by abrading or pre-treated with boiling water first.
