An old New Zealand variety of onions suited to cooler climates. Round brown-skinned bulbs with white flesh and a strong flavour. Mid to late maturing with an excellent bolting tolerance.
One of the best keeper onions available that stores for 8-10 months.

Adaptable to most garden soils in an open sunny position.

If sowing direct thin where required to 10cm between plants.  Harvest when tops wilt.

Onion seeds are easy to propagate from Seed.

Although you can sow onion seeds in trays and punnets, the best method for growing onion seeds is to sow them directly in the garden.

  1. Sow in furrows 40 centremertres apart.
  2. A spacing of 10 centremetres.
  3. Cover lightly.
  4. Thin the strongest plants.

Germination: 

7-10 days at 18-25°C

Cool climates: February to September.
Temperate climates: February to August.
Sub-Tropical climates:
February to June.
Tropical climates: February to May.
Arid climates: March to July.
