A stunning poppy that produces spectacular large single scarlet red flowers with black blotches on each petal, the inner petals stay upright, hence its common name of Tulip Poppy.
Adaptable to most well-drained garden soils in an open sunny position.
Tolerant to poor sandy soils and drought and frost resistance.
A hardy poppy that originates from the mountainsides of Turkey, Syria and Saudi Arabia.
Grow notes:
Tropical: Autumn to early winter.
Temperate: Late summer and autumn.
Cold: Late summer and early autumn.
Sow: 2-3mm deep, cover lightly and gently firm.
For best results sow directly into the soil where they are to grow. If grown early indoors use a growing container that can be planted directly into the ground such as jiffy pots as seedlings do not like root disturbance.
Germination: 10-14 days.
Plant space: 20-30cm
Flowering: 20 weeks
Feed with a soluble fertiliser every two weeks for more vigorous plants.
