A vigorous deciduous vine originating from North America, it can be high climbing or trailing vine. Leaves provide early autumn colour, turning brilliant mauve, red and purple. Inconspicuous small greenish flowers occur in clusters appearing in spring followed by bluish fruits about 6 mm in diameter.
Adaptable to most soils and positions, frost resistant but drought tender.
Cold stratify in the refrigerator 30-60 days or can be over wintered in the garden in colder climates.
