The Kumi Kumi pumpkin is a rare ethnic heirloom variety of the Maori people from New Zealand. It produces round to oval, heavily ribbed fruit with a nutty flavour, approximately 1 to 1.5 kg and 20-30 cm across. Harvest young for use like winter squash, for the young fruit can be boiled, fried, or baked and has a rich, nutty flavour, or leave to mature for use like pumpkin. It is suitable for winter storage.
Introduced by European settlers, it has become a staple in Maori culture for many generations.
Pumpkins are a warm-season plant.
