Rhodanthe manglesii is an annual species of Australian native everlasting that grows up to 0.5 meters tall, with slender branches. Its stem-clasping leaves are heart-shaped and can grow up to 5cm long. The flower heads, which comprise papery white bracts around a yellow centre, appear mainly in spring and summer and can be up to 30 mm in diameter. The silvery flower buds are also attractive in their own right.
This plant has been a popular choice for cultivation for many years because of its colourful display, especially when planted in masses. It can thrive in most temperate areas but prefers well-drained soils and a sunny location. It can also often germinate from seeds produced from the previous season's plantings.
Rhodanthe manglesii occurs naturally in the southwest of Western Australia in regions including Avon Wheatbelt, Coolgardie, Esperance Plains, Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Mallee, Murchison, Swan Coastal Plain, and Yalgoo
Sow the seed in autumn or Winter. after the first rains. It is best to sow seed by scattering over a weed-free area and racking over very lightly. It is not critical to cover all the seeds.
Germination: 5-10 days after the first rains.
